Operation En Garde
Operation En Garde is a new proactive information program whose aim is to reduce the number of preventable residential fire deaths in Canada. On average, fire kills eight Canadians every week. Residential property fires account for 40% of all fires and a staggering 73% of all fire deaths. In 2007, 22 fire fighters lost their lives battling fires.

Canadians are inundated with information and are unfortunately more sensitive to listening and implementing fire prevention education messages when a tragic event occurs in their neighborhood. Following a non-criminal residential fire fatality, local media are contacted offering Fire Prevention Canada spokespersons to discuss measures local residents can take to prevent such incidents.

Since the program was launched this summer, the media response to these “teachable moments” has been extremely positive. From television and radio talk show interviews, to the publishing of fire prevention articles in local newspapers as a follow up to the tragic incident, Operation En Garde is succeeding in delivering critical life-saving information to Canadians.

Operation En Garde is a program we profoundly believe in and strongly feel will save lives. To help support this program, please visit our donations page. Thank you.
